We decided that ComEd’s fridge recycling program could do more than replace old fridges – and the Icebox Derby was born. It’s a chance for girls across Chicagoland to turn recycled fridges into derby cars, and help them realize the possibilities of pursuing a career in STEM.
Our biggest challenge was building a fan base that would be as passionate about this race as the girls were to be in it.

So we challenged them on Instagram, quite literally.

We gave each team a voice, a personality and a reason for being.
